Is it my imagination or has the price of milk gone up, pretty much every time I go to the shop? Is it because of Trump’s tariffs? Is it the fault of China? Russia? Is it the Brexit debacle? Are cows getting greedy about sharing their milk with us?
A gallon of milk ($4) is now more expensive than a gallon of gasoline ($2.55), and nobody wants to eat their breakfast cereal in a bowl of gasoline, so come on, what gives? Nobody at Publix has an answer for me.
In Britain, Brexit and the reality of divorce from the mainland is causing people to worry. Where are they going to buy Brie and Camembert? Who’s going to supply Liebfraumilch? (not France, and not Germany, not anymore).
More importantly where are people with diabetes going to buy insulin? Or blood pressure medication? Nobody, not even Americans, want to pay American prices for prescription drugs.
Brexit is a frustrating mishmash of confusion – if only they’d asked my opinion before going ahead with it – but alas, nobody cares about my opinion! So as we hurtle towards another deadline for Britain to stomp off and slam the door behind them, without a legal divorce agreement in place, it will be the children who suffer.
Particularly those who need medication – and perhaps those who drink a lot of milk.
Which still doesn’t tell me why Tallahassee milk prices are increasing. Do you know?
P.S. Milk is still served, and complimentary at the Little English Guesthouse!
