Mirror, mirror on the wall...
Our wonderful guests this week asked me the "story" of the beautifully etched mirror on the breakfast room wall. I love how our guests always ask about the "story" and it occurred to me that lots of pieces in our bed and breakfast do indeed, have a story. Some are pretty quick stories of how that particular piece came to be in that spot, others take a little longer.
For example, the beautiful Italian sideboard in the breakfast room holding up the all-important coffeepot and cutlery belonged to my parents. It's Italian made, but they purchased it in London and had it in their home for many years. When my mother passed away, my father put it in a shipping container (well, not by himself, he had a shipping company help him!) and sent it over to us where it continues to be put to good use.
This mirror came with it and I didn't remember seeing the mirror in our home. Recently when an old friend (as in longtime, sweet friend, not elderly!) came to visit and saw it, she told me I had left home when they purchased it. She was with my mother when it was purchased and apparently, my mother designed it. The two of them were out shopping together and happened upon this little shop. The proprietor-artist told them they could have any design they wanted, so they both gave her instructions on what they wanted and lo and behold, she made it so!
This mirror is one of a kind, designed-by-Mum. It's a beautiful waterfall scene complete with rocks and water lilies. Not for sale, so don't ask!
