Queen Elizabeth II died.

For Brits everywhere, including in Tallahassee, it feels like a beloved member of our family has died. Queen Elizabeth II died today.

Just 2 days ago, she invited Liz Truss to be our new Prime Minister. It was the 15th time, she had invited a member of the public (the leader of a political party) to lead the country.

Fifteen Prime Ministers. 15.  Fifteen.

That began with Sir Winston Churchill.

For most of us, she’s the only monarch we’ve ever known. Seventy years is a long time. She was the longest serving monarch in British history.

And now we have King Charles III. Charles has rather large shoes to fill. I certainly don’t envy him.

Just this morning we realized we should be concerned about her health.

And after lunch, the texts from my family and friends in the UK and in the USA, lighting up my phone, that she’s gone.

Unbelievable, even though we all knew she was 96. No-one lives forever. But somehow it’s a shock that Queen Elizabeth II died.

I’m not often lost for words, but today is that kind of day.
