Vast, untamed sea – captivating to watch..

I spotted this photo in a British photography contest and had to repost it for you.

It’s in County Durham, in the north of England and that’s the cold North Sea throwing itself against that little, skinny David of a lighthouse. Majestic, right?

Beautiful, terrifying..vast, ginormous. Lots of words come to mind. I’m not even sure there are paid lighthouse keepers anymore, now that everything is automated, but I certainly wouldn’t want to be one, during a storm like this one.

But it’s wonderful being able to observe it from afar, from the safety of your screen, where ever you happen to be sitting right now, rather than watching the sea beat down your door as you sit on the the edge of earth and sea in a little lighthouse.

My heart goes out today to the people of the coastal Carolina states as Hurricane Florence is beating down their doors, particularly those who did not or could not evacuate.

The vast, untamed sea is a majestic sight to behold from afar, in safety. When it is upon you, your home, your loved ones, its vastness and wildness as it is whipped up high and then thrown down, causing flooding and tragedy, it’s a terrible sight to behold.

Having watched Katrina, Irma, Charley, Wilma, Hermione and too many other hurricanes from the comfort of a television and an airconditioned room, I can only pray that today people are spared the worst of Florence, and that recovery is swift.

Hurricane season 2018. Begone. You’ve already outstayed your welcome.
