Finally! Allowed to donate blood!

It was a new start to a new me in 2024.

I started donating blood in my earlier years, as soon as I was old enough. I think I was 16, and needed my parents’ permission.

Then I moved to Florida and found the American blood donation place and went there to do my civic duty.

But only for a short while.

In the early 90’s, I was told they didn’t want my blood anymore, as I”d lived in England in the 80s (with my mummy and daddy!) and might have mad cow disease.

Every so often I would check in, only to be told: “No, you might be incubating mad cow disease”.

I was pretty sure that if I were ever going to start mooing, I would have done so many years ago.

Alas, they didn’t want my blood.

Last year, the National Centers for Disease Control decided to lift that ban – and I could resume my civic duty – 30 something years later.

And so I did.

I’m going to make up for lost decades and donate every time they tell me I can.

I’ve personally known enough people with cancer who needed blood products via transfusion to know that this is something I CAN DO.

Maybe not for those specific people, but for many other cancer patients, burn victims, trauma patients and so on.

If you’ve ever had a loved one get sick, and feel helpless to do anything for them, know this is something you can do!

There are travel restrictions, medication restrictions and a bunch of other restrictions that prevent an awful lot of people from donating blood.

Thankfully, I’m now not one of those people anymore. I am able, and certainly willing to donate blood.

And I shall.

Will you?

Did you know every blood donation can save up to 3 lives, with EVERY donation? That fact alone makes me want to stop at every blood mobile drive and roll up my sleeve for the 30 minutes it takes to do the right thing. (They won’t let me as you’re only allowed to donate once a month!)

Watch this YouTube video – lives are being saved at car crash sites because paramedics can now provide blood transfusions. This can keep someone alive until they can get to a hospital.

That someone could be your loved one, or me, or you!

Are you ready to do something easy just because you can?

You’ll be glad you did.
