How do you get off the London Underground? Dancers know …

I have always loved dance. Real dancing, ballet, ballroom dancing, interpretative dancing – not the meaningless gyrations that passes as dance today, but I digress…  Jordan Matter captures not just the movement but the emotion, the passion and draws us into his moment.  Of course, the photos taken in London are his best work, in my humble opinion.

Despite my possession of a camera and a rather posh I-phone, the art of photography is not mine to have. I am gifted with other talents though, so I mustn’t grumble. The older one gets, the more one learns to appreciate the small things and not maximize the minutia. Like the fact that I am prone to take photos of people without their heads.

I simply love the work of Jordan Matter, a photographer based in New York City. Full disclosure, we have never met. He is likely unaware of my existence. He appears to travel the world to take photographs – many of them in movement. The best photos are those he’s taken in England, of course. This one is a dancer stepping off, with wild abandon, a London tube carriage (that’s the subway in American-speak). Perhaps it just got to be a little claustrophobic for her, even though the platform seems to be empty, so it’s not exactly 5 o’ clock rush hour. Or maybe, like many dancers, she just dances for the pure joy of expression.  Either way, Jordan Matter does a fabulous job of capturing the moment. And this dancer has certainly figured out the best way to get out of the carriage on the London Underground.

Maybe I should invite Jordan Matter to Tallahassee to take photos of Thom and I elegantly propelling ourselves off the front door step of the bed and breakfast.  That would surely make the front page of his next book. Or the front page of the Tallahassee newspaper for all the wrong reasons!

Come stay with us –  you never know what you’ll see on the front steps!  Only at the Little English Guesthouse – stay tuned.
