I do! I do! One would imagine being born and raised in London, we’d be so used to it being overcast and rainy that we would never hang clean washing on the line to dry and expect it to actually dry.
But we did hang it out and it did dry (well, most of the time). We had a tumble dryer for the days when it was just too damp (or maybe too foggy to see the washing line!) but for the most part, that combination of solar and wind power did the job rather well.
Then I emigrated to Florida. The Sunshine state where, in the summer, there can be a triple digit blazing inferno right outside the back door. To this day, friends will see my washing on the line and ask me (a) why I don’t have a tumble dryer or (b) if the tumble dryer is broken.
We do indeed own a tumble dryer, an oldie but goodie that still works very well after 2 decades (they don’t make them like they used to!).
Our guests often ask the name of the detergent/fabric softener used on the sheets because they smell so fresh. When I tell them there is no fabric softener, just soap and water and fresh Tallahassee air, they are truly surprised. Even the guests that live in Florida!
Because some folks are allergic/sensitive, we run the dried laundry through the tumble dryer on “fluff” or air dry for a few minutes, just in case there’s any pollen attached. But after 18 years in business, we’ve only ever received compliments on our lovely, fresh-air-smelling sheets.
So, take a leap into the 21st century. Try using the very latest solar/wind power technology available. Put up a washing line in your back garden, you might find the smell of “nothing” when you get in the bed tonight, rather refreshing!
